That distinction makes environmental claims much more credible.
Certification is not automatically necessary for every organization.
I recommend first understanding why the company wants it.

A factory handling chemicals has different environmental concerns from an office-based company.
A textile factory has different issues from a precision machining plant.
Ask whether the team understands how management systems operate in real workplaces.
Can they identify a control that exists on paper but fails in practice?
Can they talk to operators?
Can they understand production pressures?
These skills matter.
If you already have ISO 9001 or ISO 45001, look for a provider that understands how to integrate common processes.
This can reduce duplicated work.
Before signing an agreement, ask exactly what the service includes.

I recommend measuring readiness by implementation quality rather than trying to meet an arbitrary deadline.

I start with the factory.
What materials enter?
What resources are consumed?
What waste leaves?
What emissions are generated?
What could go wrong?
